How Much Does Home Automation Cost in India? Complete 2026 Price Guide

One of the most common questions we receive at Evoto Technologies is: “How much does home automation actually cost?” The honest answer is: it depends — on the size of your home, the system you choose, the level of integration, and the brands involved. This guide breaks down costs transparently across every tier of smart home investment in India in 2026.

Note: All prices are approximate installed costs in Indian Rupees (₹) as of 2026. Actual quotes will vary based on project scope, site conditions, and product selection. Contact us for a project-specific estimate.

Tier 1 — Wireless, 2BHK Apartment (₹1–2 Lakhs+)

Professionally installed wireless automation for a 2BHK — smart switches replacing your existing switch plates, a central hub, and scenes for lighting and fans. Brands at this tier include Aqara, LifeSmart, and Schneider Wiser. No wiring changes are needed.

What you get: voice control (Alexa/Google), scheduling, remote access, and app control for lights and appliances. What you don't get: the deep, whole-home integration and reliability of a wired bus system.

Best for: Apartments, rented homes, and homeowners who want a smart home without any civil work.

Tier 2 — Wireless, 3BHK Apartment (₹2–5 Lakhs+)

A wireless system covering the whole home. This includes smart switches in every room, motorised curtains in key rooms, CCTV with remote viewing, smart door locks, and a properly configured hub with scenes and automations. The upper end of the range covers more curtains, cameras, and premium switch finishes.

Brands at this tier: Aqara, LifeSmart, Schneider Wiser, and Somfy for curtain motors. A good integrator will design the system for reliability — proper mesh networking, redundant connections, and a logical scene structure.

Best for: Existing 3BHK homes, retrofits, and homeowners who want a comprehensive smart home without wiring work.

Tier 3 — Full KNX Wired, Kothi / Villa (₹7–20 Lakhs+)

A KNX installation where lights, motors, sensors, thermostats, and AV components are connected to the KNX bus. Programming is done using ETS. Touch panels, premium keypads (Gira, Berker, Schneider SpaceLogic), and a mobile app provide control.

At this level, expect: lighting scenes programmable by room, time, and astronomical clock; motorised blinds and curtains; HVAC control; multi-zone audio; CCTV integration; smart alarm; and video intercom — all on a single, unified system.

Cost depends mainly on the number of rooms and devices. A focused KNX scope for a kothi starts around ₹7 lakhs; larger villas and farmhouses with premium keypads, full AV, and motorised shading on every window go beyond ₹20 lakhs.

Best for: New kothis and bungalows, luxury villas, farmhouses, and homes under construction or major renovation where the bus cable can be laid.

Hybrid systems: Some projects combine wired infrastructure for curtain motors, HVAC interfaces, and audio with a wireless control layer (Casambi, Aqara, or similar). These are priced case by case and usually fall between the wireless and KNX ranges above.

Hidden Costs to Budget For

  • Civil work: Conduit laying during construction or chasing in existing walls adds ₹50,000–2,00,000 depending on scope.
  • Electrical panel upgrade: If your main DB needs more circuits, budget ₹15,000–40,000.
  • UPS / backup: Smart home devices need clean power. A proper UPS runs ₹20,000–60,000.
  • Annual maintenance: Equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty at first. After that, our annual maintenance contract costs around 5% of the equipment value.
  • Network infrastructure: Reliable Wi-Fi mesh and a dedicated home network are essential foundations — budget ₹30,000–80,000.

Is It Worth It?

Yes — when done correctly. A well-designed smart home delivers measurable energy savings (15–30% on lighting and HVAC), genuine security improvements, and everyday convenience that fundamentally changes how you interact with your space. It also adds resale value — particularly KNX systems, which are recognisable quality markers to informed buyers.

The key is to work with a certified integrator who designs the system for your needs — not to sell you the most expensive package.
